Today on the Geneva Motor Show, Porsche presented a new concept car, 918 Spyder. This model is an exception, because the company from Stuttgart deosn't usually produce concept cars. The 918 Spyder concept is a hybrid car (has both electric motor and regular combustion engine), and its tech specification is impressive.
Porsche's new car will accelarate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and will be able to acheive 320 km/h. It has 500 horsepower combined in V-8 engine and two electric motors, that give 218 HP. It features unbelivable efficency, 78.4 miles per gallon. Power is delivered to engine with a seven-speed PDK gearbox.
Porsche used the lightest materials to build 918 Spyder. To keep the weight as low as possible, the company used carbon-composite, magnesium and aluminum, and aquired impressive weight of less than 1500 kilograms.
I think that future of car industry, and not only cars, but all of the land transportation, lies in ecological electric or hybrid power. The combination of both regular enegines and electric motors gives amazing effects, such as Porsche 918 Spyder. It benefits for both environment and the cost of driving. In my opinion we will soon be able to see more hybrid cars on the streets.
