Google finally added bicycle routes to Google Maps, but it is undeveloped, because it provides direction only in 150 cities and covers about 12,000 miles of routes.
David Coursey, the author of the article criticizes Google's new service for poor documentation and Google for putting very little effort in it. He also suggests that the company should enable crowdsourcing (people can submit new routes, trails) to improve the service. He says that he knows a lot of interesting and good bike trails that we would like to share with others but he can't because Google didn't prepare a easy way to share routes. In his opinion, cyclists know the most about routes and that their knowledge should be used.
I partly agree with Coursey, I think that Google definitely should enable an easy and simple way for people to share routes in order to improve the quality of the service. Although I know that it is difficult for Google employees sitting in company's headquarters to control and check all the suggestions. I also think that Google has just started and it will slower or faster develop its product.
