On Firday morning, at 5:20 a.m. local time in Geneva scientists have established a new record in energy in LHC (Large Hadron Colider). Physticists accelerated proton beams at 3.5 TeV (tera-electron-volts), which is the highest energy level ever reached in the LHC. They are planing to colide two these beams to achieve an enormous 7 TeV collision, that is half of the collider's maximum energy.
The previous record was also set by the 27 km collider in Geneva last December, when scientists collided two 1.18 TeV beams in order to create 2.36 TeV collision.
Physicists hope that the 7 TeV collision will take place in next couple of weeks.
In my opinion, LHC is a great innvention and instrument given to scientists to experiment with high speeds and energys in order to smash particles and create enormous collison. All this is made to find out how universe had formed and what happened during the Big Bang. LHC has already provided some surprises and proved some of physicists expectations. I think that it will show other shocking results.
