An Electric Boost for Bicyclists

Electric bicycles are becoming popular and more common. Everything started in China, where there are about 120 millions of electric bicycles on roads. They are more efficent and ecological than ordinary motorcycles or cars.
Sales of electric bikes are increasing all the time and they become an important global industry. In Netherlands, one third of money spend on bikes was spent on electric bikes. Experts predict that the same will happen to other countries in Europe; as the population ages around the Europe, the interest in these types of bikes grows.
"The grow has been tremendous in the last two years," says Naveen Munjal from Hero Electric, a division of India's largest bicycle and motorcycle maker. The company hopes that their sales will rise from 100,000 in 2009 to 250,000 in 2010.
The advancement in technology enabled older people to benefit from electric bikes.
Many people switch from cars to these bicycles, so the emission of gases causing global warming is smaller. They are also very popular and useful in densly populated areas, especially big cities, where cars are unable to move, because of traffic, and bikes can fit everywhere. As people realize that this type of transportation has many advantages for themselves, society and ecology, they might think about buying one.
