Intel Preparing Six-core Chips for Desktops, Servers

Intel is planing to release a new six-core chip, called Gulftown mainly for servers, but also high-end desktops. The company hopes to publish its product in the first half of this year.
The chip has company's latest achievement, Westmere architecture, which enables better performance and higher power efficiency.
Intel refused to reveal specific details like clock speed of Gulftown, but it is known that it will have 12 MB cache. The chip will be very power efficient, because it will be able to turn off an idle core, in order to save power. It is also enriched with AES (Advanced Encryption System), which will guarantee better safety.
Intel targets its new product to companies that need fast servers and game enthusiasts. The company is also devoloping eight-core chip, named Nehalem-EX.
Technology devolpment is so fast, that soon we will probably see 12-core chips, that are even smaller and more efficient.
