Today, in San Francisco at Nintendo's first quarter media summit, the company oficially introduced its new portable video gaming console, DSi XL. One of its main features are 93% bigger screens than the previous model, which allow much better gaming experience. The company also presented some statistics on its performance and achievements in 2009.
Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America executive vice president of sales and marketing, said that the new device gives more social experience, because bigger screens mean multiple viewing angles, and that it invites more players.
The new DSi XL will be available on March 28 for $190.
Dunaway also said that the company established many new records in sales. Especially December 2009 was a good month for Nintendo, because it sold the largest amount of Wii consoles ever in a single month.
I think that the new model is only slightly better than the previous one, and that it might not be as successful as the ordinary DS. On the other hand 93% bigger screens is a huge improvement and Nintendo fans will like it. In my opinion Nintendo is trying to compete with Apple iPad in some way.
