The Cell Motion BioBus is a sciene laboratory inside an old-school San Francisco transit bus. It brings hands-on experience and science education to poor schools.
President Obama, just before thanksgiving, in his speech about education in the U.S. mentioned poor academic knowledge of U.S. students and announced the launch of the Educate to Innovate Campaign. The program is aimed to recruit and train new teachers, update technology in school, and develop interactive learning content.
The BioBus' founder Dubin-Thaler, (PhD degree at Columbia University), established the BioBus in 2007 from his savings and friends' support. The Bus is providing scientific experience to 10,000 students a year.
I think that it is a great idea and should be used not only all over the U.S., but also in other countries. The bus, like this, gives hands-on experience, allows students to better understand science, and gives access to more knowledge. It gives students an unique opportunity to do labs and different experiments, especially in poor schools that can't afford expensive equipment.
