Google testing super-fast broadband network

On Wednesday Google announced that it is planning to test a ultra-high-speed broadband network. Its purpose is to show the potential of broadband networks and how fast the Internet access might be in the future.
Google plans to build a fiber-optic network, that will offer download speed of 1 gigabit per second. It is 100 times faster than some of today's Internet Service Provider. That fast speed will allow to download full a high-defenition, full-length movie in less than five minutes.
Google expects that this test Internet access will be available from 50,000 up to 500,000 people by the end of this year.
I think that Google doesn't want to start new branch of the company as a I.S.P (Internet Service Provider), but rather to motivate other providers to improve their service and offer higher bandwitches at lower costs. The company also, by making Internet more accessible to people, benefits, because more people uses their services. In my opinion, the project is a great idea and I can't imagine what the networks will look like in 10 years from now.
